MANILA, Philippines — The 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) will extend its theatrical run for an additional week, continuing until January 14, 2025, in response to “insistent public demand.”

Originally set to conclude on January 7, the festival will allow audiences more time to watch its 10 official entries in select Metro Manila cinemas.

The lineup for this milestone edition includes “My Future You,” “Uninvited,” “Topakk,” “Hold Me Close,” “Espantaho,” “And the Breadwinner Is…,” “The Kingdom,” “Green Bones,” “Isang Himala,” and “Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital.” MMFF complimentary passes will remain valid throughout the extended run.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman and MMFF overall chairman Don Artes expressed optimism about the extension, saying it will provide more opportunities for local films to shine and boost earnings for the industry.

“We, at the MMFF, are overwhelmed with the continued support of the public for the festival’s 50th edition. Due to public clamor, we have decided to extend the theatrical run of the MMFF movies to further showcase the locally produced films that are truly impressive and artistically excellent,” Artes said in a statement.

He also noted that the MMDA is hopeful for a strong performance in 2024 earnings, following the record-breaking success of the 2023 edition, which became the highest-grossing MMFF in history with box-office sales surpassing ₱1 billion.

The extension reflects the enduring popularity of MMFF as a platform for celebrating the creativity and artistry of Filipino filmmakers.
