In an impressive performance, Cebuano guard Cometa scored a career-high 23 points, leading the College of St. Benilde Blazers to a decisive 100-77 victory over the Arellano Chiefs during the NCAA Season 100 men’s basketball tournament. This win served as sweet revenge for the Blazers, who had suffered a narrow defeat to the Chiefs earlier in the season.

Coach Charles Tiu emphasized the team’s focus on ball security following their earlier loss, stating, “It’s been something we’ve talked about since that loss. We just needed to take better care of the basketball.” The Blazers now boast a record of 9 wins in 11 games, placing them a full game ahead of the Mapua Cardinals.

Cometa’s performance was bolstered by strong contributions from his teammates, with Justine Sanchez adding 14 points and 10 rebounds and Allen Liwag contributing 12 points. The Blazers built an 18-point lead early in the second quarter, showcasing their dominance throughout the game.

The Chiefs, on the other hand, faced their eighth defeat, despite Troy Valencia’s standout performance with 25 points. Coach Tiu acknowledged the adjustments made since their previous encounter, particularly stressing the importance of reducing turnovers. The Blazers also excelled in team play, recording 22 assists and dominating the boards with 60 rebounds, including 22 offensive rebounds.

This victory not only avenged their earlier loss but also solidified the Blazers’ position in the league, demonstrating their growth and determination as the season progresses.
