Liam Payne, former member of the popular boyband One Direction, tragically passed away on October 16, 2024, at the age of 31. Buenos Aires police confirmed that Payne fell from the balcony of his third-floor room at the Casa Sur Hotel in Argentina. According to reports from The Associated Press, medics arrived at the scene and pronounced him dead immediately.
The incident began with reports to the police about an “aggressive man” who might have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Buenos Aires Security Ministry spokesperson Pablo Policicchio said Payne “threw himself from the balcony.” Local authorities who responded to the scene reported hearing a loud noise before discovering Payne’s body in the hotel’s courtyard.
However, the circumstances remain under investigation, and an autopsy is still pending. Alberto Crescenti, head of Argentina’s state emergency medical system, shared that investigations were ongoing, as he spoke on the Todo Noticias TV channel.
Payne had recently attended a solo concert by his former bandmate Niall Horan, who performed in Argentina earlier this month. Payne leaves behind a 7-year-old son, Bear Grey Payne, with his former girlfriend Cheryl. He is also survived by his parents, Geoff and Karen Payne, and his two sisters, Ruth and Nicola.
