LONDONKing Charles III made a strong appeal for unity in uncertain times, as the 76-year-old monarch plays an increasingly visible role in the UK’s diplomatic efforts regarding Ukraine.

Charles Steps Into Diplomatic Spotlight

With Britain and European nations scrambling to maintain a united front after U.S. President Donald Trump’s sudden withdrawal of support for Ukraine, King Charles has emerged as a key figure in rallying international solidarity.

Traditionally, the UK head of state remains politically neutral, but in recent days, Charles has hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at his private estate and even extended an invitation to Trump for a second state visit.

Commonwealth Day Message: Strength in Differences

On Monday, King Charles will deliver a speech for Commonwealth Day, marking the annual celebration of the 56-nation alliance, largely made up of former British colonies.

According to excerpts released on Saturday, Charles emphasized the importance of unity despite differences, stating:

“In these uncertain times, where it is all too easy to believe that our differences are problems instead of a source of strength and an opportunity for learning, the Commonwealth’s remarkable collection of nations and peoples come together in the spirit of support and, crucially, friendship.”

International Efforts to Support Ukraine

Earlier on Saturday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer revealed that Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is considering joining a coalition of countries willing to safeguard a potential ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war.

A UK official confirmed that British representatives have been in discussions with around 20 nations interested in being part of the so-called “coalition of the willing”.

While the official did not disclose the full list of countries, they noted that the participants are “largely European and Commonwealth partners.”
